SPAC Policy & Practice Lunch: Mental Health in our Schools

Thu, 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM

Description

Join SPAC as we highlight what mental health supports and practices are happening in our schools.

Some background:
On February 14, 2018, there was a horrific act of violence at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School, killing 17 people and leaving 17 more injured.

Within 3 months, lawmakers came together and implemented the MSD Act, which gave school districts funding to make sure something like this doesn’t happen again. Each school district was able to use those funds to increase safety and mental health access.

At this Policy and Practice Lunch, we will hear from Debra Giacolone, who oversees the Mental Health Services at Sarasota County Schools. Our county has taken an innovative approach to supporting our students, and we encourage you to come and learn more about it! Please arrive at 12:00 and feel free to bring a brown bag lunch to enjoy as we learn about the way Sarasota County Schools approach mental health and behavior issues through state policy. We will end promptly at 1:00.
