Done In A Day Community Projects
The applications for the Done in a Day (DIAD) Service Projects are available to local non-profit agencies within Sarasota County.
Past League DIAD projects include:
Ryan’s Case for Smiles – Pillowcase Sewing Event
Ryan’s Case for Smiles’ mission is to enable children with cancer and other life-changing illnesses and injuries, as well as their families, to cope with the illness today, while building resilience to thrive in the future – in short to feel better to heal better. Junior League volunteers will complete 200 pillowcases for four months of deliveries to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading through The Patterson Foundation and Community Foundation of Sarasota County – Pop up Neighbor
The Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading will team up with The Laundry Project to create a “pop Up Neighbor through Laundry” event. These events assist low-income families with meeting a basic need – washing clothes, by turning laundromats into community centers of hope. For three hours, laundry fees are paid for all patrons while Junior League volunteers assist with laundry services, provide information about community supports, entertain children by reading books, and create a caring space at the laundromat.
Florida Center for Early Childhood – Preschool Potty Makeover
Junior League volunteers will paint and add colorful artwork to transform preschool bathrooms in the Starfish Academy, which serves children with developmental disabilities or delays.
Mental Health Community Centers, Inc. – Container Garden Project
The Container Garden Project entails creating container gardens at the Venice location, Beacon House, for the Venice and North Port locations. Members at the Community Centers will learn gardening skills, practice gardening, learn heathy eating options, and use the food grown in the garden in their meals.
InStride Therapy, Inc. – Arena Beautification
InStride is the process of setting up an area to provide services for survivors of various types of trauma, including child abuse, sex trafficking, domestic violence survivors, and veterans and first responders with PTSD. Junior League volunteers will paint two bathrooms and half of a small office. In addition they will lay mulch around the two small buildings and plant new flower beds, creating a quiet sanctuary.
The Junior League Done in a Meeting initiatives include:
The Twig Cares – kids underwear drive for foster kids
SPACC & South County Food Pantry – feminine hygiene drive
JFCS of the Suncoast, Inc. – Purchase books to donate to local non-profit agencies
