We are the Junior League of Sarasota. We are Unstoppable!
Why Join the Junior League of Sarasota? Membership Has Its Benefits.
Voluntarism and Community Impact
You have the opportunity to serve the League, as well as serve those in need in our community, through a variety of worthwhile projects. Our main initiative is hunger relief. Did you know that Sarasota has a major need for hunger relief? We work to help feed those in need in the area through our Slow Cooker Education courses, food drives, our work with All Faiths Food Bank, etc.
Junior League of Sarasota members strive to have an impact on making our community better place for everyone. Did you know Junior League of Sarasota built the first handicapped accessible playground; spearheaded the creation of organizations such as the Child Protection Center and Teen Court; and provides hands-on services and awards grants to other local non-profit organizations? These are just a few of the ways we impact our local community and service-minded women like you make the Junior League UNSTOPPABLE.
Networking and Friendships
We are a group of women from all different walks of life, races, religions, ages, and professions. Working side-by-side on committees and serving the community leads to new friendships and partnerships that can last a lifetime. We regularly have socials for our members as well.
You’ll learn more about Sarasota and other non-profits in Sarasota. Each New Member class meeting is held at a different non-profit and we often have interesting and influential members of the community speak at our General Membership meetings. Through your volunteer work, you’ll meet many people outside of the Junior League as well.
Training and Leadership Development
The Junior League believes in a well-trained volunteer force. You will find many opportunities to sharpen your current skills and learn some new ones. As an active member, you have the opportunity to serve on any number of committees where you may learn about fundraising, renovating a room, building a garden for a charity, improving your communications skills, and so much more. In addition, we offer training courses and seminars throughout the year. There are even opportunities to attend state, regional, and national Junior League conferences.
Many League members take the skills they learn as a part of the Junior League of Sarasota experience and parlay them into their personal and professional lives. Many end up with new career opportunities, serve on other non-profit boards, or serve in other leadership programs.
International Membership Transferability
Since its founding in 1901 by social activist Mary Harriman, The Junior League has evolved into one of the oldest, largest, and most effective women’s volunteer organizations in the world, encompassing more than 140,000 women in 291 Leagues in four countries.
Once you join a League and keep in good standing, you can transfer to any other league in the US, Canada, Mexico, or Great Britain.
