01 Mar Little Black Dress Initiative
Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI) is a week-long event where Junior League of Sarasota members (and friends!) wear a black, work-appropriate outfit each day, which represents the lack of choices for children and women in our community living in poverty. Wearing the dress is symbolic of standing in solidarity with those living in poverty because, contrary to what some might think, poverty can look like any one of us. Our hope is that this initiative will help to humanize and give a voice to the faces of poverty, especially our aging community.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 to support our mission: to promote voluntarism, develop the potential of women, and improve the community through the effective action and leadership. Join our team or donate to support our community!
How do JLS members participate?
Participants will wear their preferred black outfit for the week of March 18-22 with a button that will read “ask me about my dress”. Members will have information to share to raise awareness of the effects of poverty on the aging population in Sarasota. Participating members will highlight their involvement through social media posts by tagging #JLSarasotaLBDI.
